サイキック(psychic)は、形容詞としては超常的・超自然的な力や要因をさす。名詞としては、霊媒師や超常的な力を備えた人をさす。

ジェームズ・ランディは超能力や霊能力をもっていると主張する人たちをテストして、以下の２つのことがらを発見している。その１、彼らはけっして対照条件下でテストを受けてこなかった。その２、自分が超能力を出せないのをばかげた言い訳で合理化しようとしない連中は、そもそもなぜ失敗したのか、自分でもわからないのだ。超能力者すべてがいんちき詐欺師というわけではない；彼らは自分でも超能力を信じているのだ。ところが、いままで意味のある方法で自分の能力を検証したことがなかった、というわけだ。
